The Shops of Brookfield held its grand opening May 8, featuring a sign built with repurposed bricks from the historic Strand Theater.
Located at Eight Corners, The Shops of Brookfield is a mixed-use development with retail, dining, and residential space in the downtown area. The project is part of the village’s ongoing revitalization efforts along the Fairview corridor.
The bricks were salvaged during the theater’s closure and incorporated into the shopping center’s signage as a nod to Brookfield’s architectural heritage.
“We had a great event on Friday. Tremendous turnout. The shop owners are very excited to be there,” Village President Michael Garvey said at the May 11 village board meeting.
Garvey said he visited several times over the opening weekend: “There was a lot of energy in the crowd. A great start to the season.”
