A large downpour resulted in the cancellation of the first Worth Cruisers Car Show on May 4, but organizers said this will not deter them in the future.

“We got set up and then the rain came and we had to shut it down,” said Trustee Rich Dziedzic, who is the chief organizer of the event. “But we still had 40 cars show up on a night like this. That shows how interested people are.”

Dziedzic said during the Worth Village Board meeting on May 5 that there will be larger crowds to attend the weekly cruiser shows, especially when the weather warms up.

Although he was disappointed, Dziedzic took the rainout in stride.

“It will be the first of many,” Dziedzic. “They will be held every Monday through October. There will be plenty of opportunities.”

The Worth Cruisers Car Shows will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. every Monday in the parking lot of Water’s Edge Golf Course at 115th and Harlem. Refreshments will be available and this is also “Burger Night” at the Water’s Edge Bar & Grill.

Village Clerk Bonnie Price mentioned that vehicle stickers are available for purchase at Village Hall, 7112 W. 111th St., which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Village Hall is open from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays.

The stickers need to be purchased by midnight Tuesday, June 30. Village Hall will be closed May 23 and May 25.

The Worth Pot of Gold Village Wide Garage Sale will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18. The rain date is Sunday, July 19. Residents need to sign up by July 2. The fee is $5.

Fishing derby

Trustee Bill Nilles, who is the chair for the public safety committee, said that the FOP Fishing Derby held April 25 at the Lake Katherine Nature Center in Palos Heights was a huge success for local students.

He thanked Sgt. Mike Cozzi, Deputy Chief Cristiano Fernandez and Mayor Mary Werner for attending the event.

“I hope more of you come out for this,” Nilles said. “The next one is May 30.”

He also reminded the board and residents that the 11th annual Worth Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 143 Golf Outing will be held Saturday, June 13, at the Water’s Edge Golf Course, 7205 W. 115th St.

Foursomes are being sought for the outing. Proceeds from the event will support the Worth Lions Club.
