The hum of conversation and the clatter of handmade goods filled the halls of Alan B. Shepard High School on Saturday, April 18, as more than 100 vendors and crafters gathered for the Band Boosters Spring Arts, Crafts and Vendor Show.

The annual fundraiser, held inside the school’s gymnasium and cafeteria at 13049 S. Ridgeland Ave., drew a steady stream of shoppers, many arriving with tote bags in hand and leaving with them noticeably fuller.

Tables stretched wall to wall, offering a little bit of everything, from handcrafted jewelry and crocheted items to colorful table runners, kitchen gift baskets and home décor. Shoppers browsed booths stocked with familiar names like Avon, Tupperware, Pampered Chef and Tastefully Simple, alongside unique, one of a kind finds from local artisans.

The event had the feel of a community gathering as much as a marketplace. Friends greeted each other between aisles, vendors chatted with curious customers, and the scent of concession stand snacks drifted through the space.

Admission was $2, with all proceeds supporting the Shepard High School band program. Organizers said the show is one of the group’s largest fundraisers of the year, helping offset costs for instruments, uniforms and travel.

Many attendees said the appeal went beyond shopping.

“It’s nice to see so many local creators in one place,” said Allison White of Palos Hills, while comparing handmade bracelets. “You can always find something you didn’t know you needed.”

Concessions were available throughout the show, giving visitors a chance to refuel before making another lap around the packed venue. Free parking made it easy for families to stop by, even if just for a quick browse.

By early afternoon, the crowd showed no signs of slowing, a testament to the event’s growing popularity and the community’s continued support for the arts.

As vendors packed up and the final purchases were made, the day closed on a high note, blending creativity, commerce and community spirit under one roof, all in support of the school’s band program.
