The Duck Stop Travel Center opened Dec. 8 at 10000 W. 75th Street, more than four years after Hodgkins and Countryside officials signed an intergovernmental agreement with the developer.

Hodgkins Mayor Ernest Millsap and Countryside Mayor Sean McDermott joined Jack Siff of the Duck Stop Corporation for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the $10 million facility near the southbound Interstate 294 exit.

The 22,000-square-foot travel plaza sits on the former Eddie Z’s property. While the main building is in Hodgkins, the truck fueling area sits on Countryside property, requiring the revenue-sharing agreement between the two communities.

The facility features fuel pumps, electric vehicle charging stations, a convenience store, restaurant, private bathroom suites and a truckers’ lounge. The interior is decorated in bright yellow with duck-themed decor.

The restaurant serves burgers, chicken sandwiches, Italian and Polish sausages, chili, tamales, salads and other items. It recently added a breakfast menu.

Members of La Grange American Legion Post 1941 raised an 80-by-50-foot American flag on a 150-foot flagpole before the ribbon cutting.
