Palos Heights residents got a festive start to the holiday season at Heights Cycle, celebrating Small Business Saturday with a showcase of local, women-owned businesses. The event took place at the studio, 7224 W. College Dr., Suite A, where shoppers could meet creative entrepreneurs, grab treats, and discover unique gifts — and even Saturday’s snowfall didn’t stop residents from coming out to support the day.

“Local businesses are the heartbeat of any community,” said Megan Wenstrup, of Heights Cycle. “That’s part of what makes them unique, special, and ‘liveable.’ We are surrounded by so many creative, passionate people, not to mention some of the hardest workers any of us know, so it was a thrill to showcase these fellow entrepreneurs. We are committed to helping our members ‘feel great,’ and this was a chance to provide additional resources in that pursuit.”
Launched in 2010 by American Express, Small Business Saturday encourages shoppers to support local businesses and keep money circulating in their communities. Each year, it shines a spotlight on the small shops and creative entrepreneurs that give towns like Palos Heights their unique character.
The event featured Heights Cycle, the Do Good Movement, the She CAN! Campaign, and Heights Cycle member Esther Thoele, owner of Treat & Cards by Esther, celebrating the creativity and innovation of women-owned businesses.
Erin Stevenson, of the Do Good Movement, sold and signed her fourth book, She Can!, joined by the book’s illustrator—her spirited 9-year-old daughter, Leslie—making it a family affair.
Stevenson said, “Small Business Saturday fuels the fire of what’s possible. Partnering with women-owned businesses reminds every woman that her strength is real, her dreams are valid and her finish line is waiting. Together, we’re providing that when a community rises — she can.”
The event also featured Thoele, of Oak Lawn, who showcased her creative homemade cards and sweet treats. Thoele’s creations, described as both artistic and delicious, were a hit.
Attendees also snagged discounts on class packs, memberships, Tiem Cycle shoes, Goodr sunglasses, David Protein Bars, LMNT hydration, Marvelous Light candles, and all Heights Cycle merchandise.
The event provided a festive atmosphere and a chance to discover new local favorites, all while enjoying the camaraderie of the Palos Heights community.
