The annual Father’s Day car show at Summit Park on Saturday brought together more than 200 vehicles and dozens of vendors to celebrate fathers and the car culture that binds the community together.

Held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the park, 5700 S. Archer Road in Summit, the free event featured classics, muscle cars, trucks, lowriders, pedal cars, and LR bikes. A live band performed throughout the day as food vendors, clothing and jewelry sellers, and local businesses set up booths.

“We just gather for all the fathers and bring stuff to the community,” said Vinny Miguel, one of the event’s organizers. “There’s cars, and people in the community own cars.”

This was the third year Miguel has organized the show as a private renter at Summit Park. He credited the park district’s board of commissioners and director for their support.

“I definitely wanna say thank you to the board of commissioners and the director for allowing me to do another show here,” Miguel said.

Roger Martinez, who also organizes the event and goes by Ro Marty on social media, said the turnout exceeded expectations.

“Last year we had 180, so we’re guessing we may have around 200 or a little bit more,” Martinez said.

The show included a judging component. Summit Park District commissioners selected winners, though vehicle owners had to pay an entry fee to compete. Admission to the event itself was free.

Beyond the Father’s Day show, Martinez and Miguel organize other community events throughout the year. Last week, they held a car show at a veterans nursing home. They also organize cruises downtown that draw 30 to 50 vehicles.
