In Year 3 of rebuild, hoping to improve on last season’s 13 wins. Senior core of G Morgan Murphy (8.2 ppg/2.1 apg), G Aliyah Cummings (6.7 ppg), F Harmony Perkins (6.1 ppg) will lead way. Watch 5-10 C Zanarhia Lawrence, 5-8 freshman PG Demi Ready.
De La Salle
GCAC White, regional and sectional titles are goals. Team MVP PG Jakiah Jackson back along with PF Maggie Robinson (double-double potential), SG Mari Jamison, C Aniyah Hamilton, SG Ellie Cabrera. Soph C Joy Akihigbe another to watch.
Evergreen Park
Four capable veterans return in F Tatum Harris (11.8 ppg/4.6 rpg/2.5 apg/2/7 spg), F Grace Kole (7.1 ppg/9.1 rpg), G Ella Throndson (6.2 ppg/2.5 rpg/2.5 apg), Addison Mrskos (4.5 ppg/2/5 rpg). Frosh Clarissa Robinson, Akai Williams offer immediate help.
Hancock
Two returning starters — senior G Nina Olivera and soph F Chloe Dougherty — lead a young team coming off a 14-11 season. Orhers to watch include F Sophie Rojas and soph C Layla Perez.
Lyons
Expectations high again with 6-1 All-Stater Emma O’Brien (Cornell; 1,000+ career points), 5-11 Gwen Smith (54% 2PT), PG Avery Mezan back from 31-3 team. Freshmen Kennedy Moore and Evie Riopell should help right away.
Marist
9 players, including 4 starters, return from 26-9 team that lost to 4A champ Kenwood in Elite Eight. Senior cousins Lucy and Olivia Cosme (39 3s on 39% shooting) lead the way and a nine-player junior group will make major contributions.
Morton
After several rebuilding seasons, Mustangs upbeat about their chances. Goal is 14 wins. Seniors Nora Abu-Taleb, Leah Brown, Gabby Carrasquillo will lead way. Soph Saniya Knazze also will contribute.
Mother McAuley
Coming off 18-13 season. PG Quinn Arundel is a 4-year starter. Senior G Delia Sullivan, junior G Taji Alexa, 5-11 senior Olivia Brown, junior F Emma Kenney also are impact players. Alexa, senior Lily Costello back after season-ending injuries last year.
Nazareth
6-0 BYU commit Stella Sakalas (18 ppg/9 rpg) leads returners from 31-3 team. Sophia Towne (13 ppg) also has multiple D1 offers. Lyla Shelton (8 ppg), Samantha Austin also back. 5-11 Mia Gage, 6-1 Hillary Whorlow both ranked in Illinois’ top 10 freshmen.
Sandburg
Looking for 20 wins, conference and regional titles. Dayton softball commit Zoe Trunk (12 ppg), her twin sister Olivia (9 ppg), Ellie Driscoll (60 3s), Makaleigh Terry all started last season. Bench is young but has potential.
Shepard
Senior F Jessica Manley (21.4 ppg/8 rpg) is one of area’s best. Senior Juliann Radz, soph Savannah Conrad ready to play bigger roles for team seeking third straight South Suburban Red title.
St. Laurence
Up to 4A this season. 2 starters back after missing last year with injury: G Aaliyah Flores (13 ppg in 23-24), PG Sara Burzycki (8 ppg/7 rpg 23-24). G/F Elle Rice, G Ciyah Thomas will contribute. GCSC White title a goal.
