Gale Moore Park transformed into a fall wonderland on Sunday as the Worth Park District hosted its 16th annual Fall Fest, drawing more than 700 residents and visitors for a full day of music, food and seasonal fun.

“We come out for the Fall Fest every year and really love it,” Worth resident Nina Fishel, said.

The day-long celebration, held on Oct. 5, was one of the year’s biggest for the Worth Park District, which is also commemorating its 60th anniversary. Families flocked to the historic tree-filled park for hayrides, pony rides, pumpkin picking, a penny-in-the-haystack game, raffles, a bags tournament, a beer and wine garden, and a bustling kids and teen fun zone.

“This fest was created to bring the community together in a fun, welcoming way,” said Bob O’Shaughnessy, CPRP, Director of Parks and Recreation. “It’s not just an event—it’s a reflection of our community spirit.”

To keep the park uncongested, parking for the event was directed to the Metra lots at 110th Street and Depot Avenue.

Once inside, guests sampled fare from some of the Midwest’s most popular food trucks, including Backdraft BBQ, Peppos Subs, JJ’s Healthy Kitchen, Nicky V’s Hot Dogs, Chi Town Taco, Beggars Pizza, Emerald Cup Coffee, Tropical Sno and Bobalicious Bubble Tea.

Three entertainment areas kept the fun going all day. Families danced along with an interactive DJ, while teens gathered at their own area for sets by Burn the Rain and Morrell & Partacz Live. On the main area stage, crowds enjoyed the sounds of Cary Kanno & the Syndicate and the Kell Ann & Ken Duo, who closed out the evening with lively performances. Festivalgoers looking for something more mystical even stopped by to have their fortunes told by a palm reader.

What made the day special, O’Shaughnessy said, was the sheer variety of experiences and the number of community groups that pitched in.

“Our Park District joined forces with Scouts, the Police Department, Lions Club, American Legion, Village Hall, Fire Department, Library, schools, local businesses and volunteers,” he said. “I love all the laughter and watching everyone capture this great event by taking photos and making memories.”

The festival also doubled as a capstone to the Park District’s 60th anniversary celebrations, featuring commemorative giveaways and activities to honor six decades of service in Worth.

With crisp autumn air, the aroma of barbecue and pizza in the park, and music echoing through the trees, the day captured what O’Shaughnessy described as the true heart of Worth.

“Whether you’re a longtime resident or visiting for the first time, Fall Fest is the perfect way to celebrate the season and the community we’re so proud of,” he said.
