After routing the Seattle Seawolves 57-17 on Saturday, the Hounds clinched the first overall seed in Major League Rugby and secured the right to play their postseason games at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview. Tickets are on sale now.
It’s a milestone moment for a franchise in just its fourth season — and for the south suburb that hosts them.
“We’re so proud that the Hounds have been having an undefeated season this year,” Bridgeview Mayor Steve Landeck said. “They bring a lot of excitement onto that playing field. I think the residents, the surrounding residents of all communities around should be proud that they have a championship rugby team and they should come out and enjoy the game and the playoffs. It’s going to be quite an event.”
The Hounds’ eighth consecutive victory extended their franchise record for most consecutive wins and showcased the depth that should make them dangerous in the postseason. Nine different players scored tries — a dominant performance that underscored why Chicago earned the league’s top seed.
Scrumhalf Ruben De Haas led the charge with two tries. Wings Noah Brown and flanker Mac Jones each scored twice. Flyhalf Chris Hilsenbeck added four conversions. Reserve center Santiago Videla, reserve flyhalf Reece Botha, No. 8 Jake Kinneeveauk, center Santiago Videla, and flanker Emmanuel Albert all contributed scores.
The game also marked personal milestones. Loosehead prop Jake Turnbull earned his 100th Major League Rugby cap. Tighthead prop Charlie Abel, a Hound since the franchise’s inaugural game in 2023, reached his 50th cap for the team.
The Hounds will face Old Glory DC on the road next Saturday before returning to SeatGeek Stadium for the playoffs.
