The Spartans are hoping a veteran team with 17 returning starters can turn things around after a rough three-year stretch that has produced just two wins.
Senior Luke Mahoney, who had 440 receiving yards and three touchdowns last year and is getting college interest, is among seven starters back on offense.
Four regulars are back on the offensive line: seniors Jesse Paredes (6-2, 240) and Alberto Silva (5-10, 250) and juniors Karmoni Polk (6-3, 270) and Layth Bani-Salman (5-9, 220).
Also returning are senior slotbacks Alex Soto (5-8, 160) and John Olejniczak (6-0, 175). Sophomore Danny Strelow will take over as quarterback.
Alum Joe Janovjak takes over as defensive coordinator and has a young but experienced unit with 10 starters — seven of them juniors — back. The seniors are Mahoney and Byron Starks (5-9, 200) at linebacker along with Isaac Gibson (5-10, 170) at safety.
Returning junior starters are linemen Jayden Schlosser (6-0, 215), Justin Lopez (5-10, 260) and Bryce Starks (5-9, 270); linebacker Jonathan Diaz (5-9, 175); cornerbacks Hendryx Goetz (5-10, 155) and James Chorney (5-10, 160); and safety Laith Abassi (5-10, 175).
