Add girls soccer to Nazareth’s list of teams that brought home a state trophy since 2011.

The Roadrunners soccer program joined the baseball, football, girls basketball, softball and girls volleyball teams to make it to the final four in their respective state tournaments.

The Roadrunners finished fourth in the Class 2A state soccer tournament, falling 1-0 to St. Ignatius in the semifinals on June 6 and 4-0 to Springfield on June 7 at North Central College in Naperville.

The Roadrunners (16-12-1) advanced to state by edging Belvidere North 2-1 on June 3 to win the St. Francis Supersectional.

Sandburg’s Stankus third in bass fishing

Fishing solo, Sandburg’s Adrius Stankus finished third in the IHSA bass fishing tournament June 6-7 at Lake Shelbyville in Shelby County.

He caught 10 fish totaling 23.1 pounds. It’s the first trophy for the Eagles, who qualified for state eight times.

Reavis finished 56th with Cesar Peralta and Adrian Gasinski hauling in three fish at 4.6 pounds. The Rams qualified for the first time in program history and coach Tony del Alcazar announced this was his last year with the program.  

Fauske Gatorade Player of the Year

Nazareth’s Jaden Fauske was named the Gatorade Illinois Baseball Player of the Year for 2025.

The outfielder is the first Nazareth baseball player and male athlete to earn the honor.

The LSU commit and Major League Baseball Draft prospect, hit .461 with six homers and 36 RBI during the regular season. He stole 29 bases in 30 attempts. He also had a 4.37 weighted GPA.  

Rouse heads to Warner

Addison Rouse resigned as baseball coach at St. Xavier to accept the head-coaching job at Warner in Lake Wales, Florida.

He coached the Cougars since 2021. One of his highlights at SXU was a 40-14-1 season in 2022.

Sports bits

St. Xavier softball shortstop Kaitlyn Wright, a Marist graduate, was named a Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner for 2025.

● Joe Pontrelli was named Lyons’ head girls cross country coach.

● Lonnie Mosley, who played basketball at Evergreen Park the past two seasons, announced via social media he is transferring to Hyde Park.
