It’s time to catch some Thanksgiving decorations as the Park Forest House Museum transitions from Halloween to Christmas exhibits. The museum, 227 Monee Road and inside St. Mary’s, is open Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 1-3:30 p.m., or at other times by appointment.

Docents are excited to show off the museum in its 26th year and tell the story of how Park Forest came to be. Please come out and support us!

Then, from November 27 – January 4, “Step Back into a 1950s Christmas and Hanukkah.” Take a break from the hustle and bustle of 21st Century holiday preparations to revisit the simpler holidays of the past. See Gurley candles, period ornaments, toys, books, and cards. (The museum will be closed on Saturday November 30.)

Featured in the exhibit is the society’s C. Sincere Forest Green, aluminum, tree, with rotating musical base. Also featured is a Hanukkah display with achievements of Jewish residents of Park Forest.

The Historical Society may be losing the museum and archive office location in St. Mary’s by next July 1. If you have never visited, or have not in a long while, be sure to stop by before the end of February.
