Crystal Skoczylas has made history as the first woman to serve as superintendent of Indian Springs School District 109, a role she stepped into as the new school year began.
In April, the SD109 Board of Education approved Skoczylas’s promotion from assistant superintendent to superintendent, succeeding Dr. Blair Nuccio, who retired on July 1, 2024. Skoczylas now oversees 2,400 students across five campuses: Bridgeview Elementary and Lyle Elementary in Bridgeview, as well as Player Early Childhood, Brodnicki Elementary, Wilkins Elementary, and Wilkins Junior High, all in Justice.
“I’m honored and blessed to be the superintendent of School District 109,” Skoczylas said. “I’m looking forward to continuing the great things that are already happening here!”
A lifelong resident of Bridgeview, Skoczylas attended Lyle Elementary, Wilkins Junior High, and Argo High School. She has worked as both a teacher and administrator at nearly every school in the district, including seven years as assistant superintendent alongside Nuccio.
“I’ve always focused on the well-being of our students and will continue to do so,” she said. “Our strategic plan ends in 2027, and we will hear voices from families, our community, and staff on how we will move forward in the future.”
Skoczylas said takes pride in the district and its students. “One of the most rewarding things is seeing former students move on in their academic careers and lives and seeing them grow into responsible adults.”
