A Chicago man has been charged with carjacking a vehicle from a female teenager in the parking lot of the Jewel-Osco at 8801 S. Ridgeland Ave. on Sept. 28, police said.

Police said a female teenager was parked and sitting inside her vehicle in the Jewel-Osco parking lot when a man with dreadlocks, wearing a ski mask and armed with a handgun, approached her vehicle. The man ordered the victim out of the vehicle several times, telling her he would shoot her. The victim exited her car and ran as the gunman sped off in the vehicle in an unknown direction.

At approximately 1:15 a.m., Burbank police officers located the unoccupied, hijacked vehicle in the 8200 block of Central Avenue. Burbank and Oak Lawn units searched the area and found a Black male suspect matching the description of the carjacker.

The suspect, identified as Damon Trout, a 20-year-old Chicago resident, was armed with a loaded handgun and taken into custody. Burbank police charged Trout with one count of unlawful use of a weapon.

Oak Lawn detectives, using camera footage and video from Jewel-Osco, were able to piece the crime together.

Detectives said they obtained a confession from Trout.

Trout was charged with one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, a Class X felony.

He had a detention hearing at the Bridgeview Courthouse on October 2 and was released awaiting trial.
