Have a senior season, Myles Mitchell.
The versatile running back delivered another dominant performance in Week 6 as Richards shut out Shepard 21-0 in a South Suburban Red game in Palos Heights.
Mitchell ran 25 times for 233 yards, including touchdowns of 91 and 9 yards.
The North Dakota State recruit also had two catches for 25 yards, including a 13-yard TD from Noah Escobedo. The junior quarterback was 5 of 11 passing for 40 yards.
That gave Mitchell 54 carries for 424 yards and seven TDs over his past two games. He has 19 touchdowns for the season.
“Myles is having a phenomenal, Player-of-the-Year type of season,” Bulldogs coach Tony Sheehan said. “That’s the kind of kid he is. Myles is pretty good and I’m glad he’s on our side.
“He ran the ball very hard and he got the tough yards in the middle. He made the right cuts and the O-line did a great job. It all worked well for us.”
The defense also contributed for the Bulldogs (5-1, 4-0) as Milan Mosley picked off two passes while Ahmad Buchanan added an interception. Richards led 21-0 after the first quarter.
“(Shepard) moved the ball a little bit on us,” Sheehan said. “We were bend-but-not-break defensively. When they got close in the red zone, we tightened up. They threw two picks and we held our ground.
“But there are some things that we need to clean up and we have to make sure they don’t happen again.”
The Astros, who had won four games in a row, dropped to 4-2, 2-1. Shepard, which came into the game averaging 34.6 points per game this season offensively, was shut out for the first time in 2024.
