New administrator Nick Palmer was looking for ways to cut a little excess and found it.
The Peotone Village Board unanimously approved, with trustees Shelley Marevka and Jackie Richards absent, a sales and service contract with Xerox that produces an annual savings of $2,500.
The cleaning contract also will be revised to once a month, along with the scope of the services, netting an additional $4,800 in cost savings per year.
The treasurer/financial consultant position was discussed in an Administrative Oversight Committee meeting and determined it was more cost effective to retain the current consultant, saving the village the cost of benefits. The rate will stay the same, and the contract can be exited early by either party.
A new business registration for Cesare Creations, at 104 W. Main Street, also unanimously was approved. Owner Dominic and Rhiannon Cesare intend to create a marketplace for local artisans and host craft classes, as well.
A gaming license for the Peotone Travel Center also was approved. The Travel Center will have 10 gaming machines instead of the usual five-or-six, because truck stops are allowed a larger number. Owner Suhas Patel obtained all necessary licenses and paid the $250 per machine fee to the village.
