IHSA announces boys volleyball postseason assignments

Last year, the area sent a pair of boys volleyball teams to state as Lyons finished runner-up to champion Glenbard South and Brother Rice lost in the quarterfinals.
This year, both could face each other in the sectional finals.
The Lions picked up the second seed and the Crusaders the third seed at the 30-team Sandburg Sectional. The postseason assignments were announced by the IHSA last week.
Oak Park-River Forest picked up the top seed in the sectional, while Sandburg was fourth, Reavis fifth and St. Laurence sixth.
Marist, which moved up to third in the country in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association May 1 national poll, is ranked first in its own sectional. St. Rita is third and Mount Carmel fifth.
The postseason begins with regional play on May 20 and the state meet is May 31-June 1 at Hoffman Estates High School.
