Kankakee County Board member Colton Ekhoff has unseated incumbent auditor Jake Lee, results from the March 19 primary election show. Ekhoff received 67 percent of the Republican vote.  Ekhoff thanked the voters for supporting him, saying: “They wanted action and, starting in December, they will see it.”
In other election news, Billy Morgan was the winner of a four-way race to secure the Democratic nomination to take on incumbent 79th District State Republican Rep. Jackie Haas in the November General Election. Others in that race included Kankakee School District 111 Superintendent Generva Walters and Kankakee County Board member Robert Ellington Snipes.
Kankakee County Clerk Dan Hendrickson said voter turnout for the March 19 primary was at what he called a “record setting” low for a Presidential Primary Election. Hendrickson said 17 percent of Kankakee County’s registered voters cast a ballot.
