The Village of Hodgkins has a new member for their Civil Service Board.
Resident Todd Haizlip was sworn in by Village Attorney, and Retired Judge Pat Rogers at the regular January Village Board meeting.
The Civil Service Board presides over the hiring process and promotions of police officers.
The board normally consists of three members, who are appointed annually.
Haizlip was congratulated by Mayor Ernest Millsap.
In other business, the village board approved a business license for Dakgogi Restaurant at 9320 Joliet Road, Suite 100 B. The restaurant is on schedule to open in March.
The board also approved the waiving of Zoning Board of Appeal Fees as of January 8.
In her report, Village Comptroller Melody Salerno said the (Quarry) mall and village are going strong. There’s been nothing but increases, and all the numbers are up.
Salerno thanked the board for their support for the mobile food pantry that was held on December 19.
She also stated that the village gave out 30 Thanksgiving food boxes and 25 boxes of food for Christmas for those in need.
Public Works Superintendent Jody Kovel said the new street sweeper was delivered in December.
Trustee Dominic Misasi, who is the chair of the Police Committee, said the Hodgkins Police Department is back up to full strength with the recent hiring of a new officer.
He said that the Citizens Police Academy will begin on February 8.
The academy is a free six-week course on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The academy is a joint project of the Hodgkins and Countryside police departments. Anyone 18 years of age or older and who lives, works, or volunteers in Countryside or Hodgkins is eligible to take part.

Misasi said the Public Relations Committee is in the process of planning activities for 2024.
Trustee Lida Mills said that the Aging Well Committee would meet soon and new members are always welcome. They had a wonderful Christmas party, and plenty of fun events planned for this year.
