Two shot dead in Chicago Lawn

A 49-year-old man and a 47-year-old woman were shot to death in a crime that occurred in a home at 6518 S. Claremont just after 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18. The man, identified as George Appleton, was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman, shot in the head multiple times, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 3:21 p.m. Her identity was not initially disclosed by authorities. No suspects are in custody in connection to the slayings.

According to public records, Appleton was a convicted felon classified as an armed habitual criminal under state law. In recent years, he was arrested several times by CPD and charged with illegal possession of ammunition, assault, aggravated assault and domestic battery.

Shot on sidewalk in McKinley Park

A 25-year-old man was shot in the chest as he stood on a sidewalk in the 3600 block of South Hoyne at 12:27 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Police said the shooters were two men who walked up on foot to the victim. No one is in custody.

Charge Brighton Park man in summer slaying

A 57-year-old Brighton Park man was charged with murder after he was arrested in the 2400 block of West 40th Street on Tuesday, Dec. 19 by members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Alex Rodriguez, of the 3000 block of West 40th Place, allegedly shot and killed 54-year-old Lewis “Lovely” Page in the 2700 block of West Wilcox at 10:22 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Page, known to police in recent years for arrests relating to drug possession and retail theft, was found in an alley with six gunshot wounds to the torso.

They were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and initially listed in critical condition but later pronounced dead.

At a detention hearing on Dec. 20, Rodriguez was ordered held until his next scheduled court date of Jan. 10.

Charge boy in Brighton carjacking

A 15-year-old boy was charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking in connection with a carjacking that occurred Wednesday, Oct. 4 in the north end of Brighton Park. Arrested Tuesday, Dec. 19 in Crest Hill, Ill., the youth allegedly was one of several people who took a vehicle at gunpoint from a 36-year-old man the 3600 block of South California. Police released no other details.

Bust man after argument in Vittum Park

A 22-year-old man from suburban Bensenville was charged with two counts of battery after he was arrested on the street in front of 4855 S. Lamon at 1:25 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 19.

Kerin J. Rivera, of the 1000 block of West Irving Park Road, allegedly punched a 47-year-old man in the face and pushed a 45-year-old woman during an argument. A charge of criminal damage to property was added after Rivera allegedly damaged a truck parked on the street. Finally, a charge of resisting arrest was added after he allegedly struggled with officers at the scene.

Seek clues in cold-case killing

The Cook County Crime Stoppers organization is offering a cash reward of up to $15,000 for information leading to the arrest or indictment of the person who killed a 17-year-old boy nine years ago in the north end of Chicago Lawn.

Jose Hernandez was fatally shot at about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014 in the 5900 block of South Fairfield. On the recent anniversary of the slaying, Crime Stoppers staff distributed flyers in the neighborhood.

Charge driver with DUI at roll-over scene

A 28-year-old Chicago Lawn man was charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and carrying open alcohol in a motor vehicle, as well as operating a motor vehicle with expired registration, after he was arrested at a crash scene in front of 5228 S. Lockwood, at 3:24 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25.

Silvestre Padilla Luna, of the 7200 block of South Sawyer, was the driver of a vehicle that flipped over, a CPD spokesman said, adding that Padilla Luna was not injured.

Arrest woman after Marquette Road spat

A 26-year-old West Lawn woman was charged with battery after she was arrested in the 4500 block of West Marquette Road at 2:01 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20.

Fernanda A. Gutierrez, of the 3700 block of West 68th Street, allegedly scratched a 25-year-old man during an argument. A charge of criminal damage to property was added after she allegedly broke the glass window in a door at a home at the scene.
