A 23-year-old Broadview man has been charged with reckless homicide in a deadly crash last month at 151st Street and Harlem Avenue in Orland Park.
Orland Park police responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of 151st and Harlem shortly after 4 a.m. on October 28.
Upon arrival, officers determined that a Nissan Sentra was struck while turning north onto Harlem while a green arrow was present. That’s when a Kia Forte allegedly entered the intersection while traveling south on Harlem, failed to stop at a red light, and ran into the victim’s vehicle.
The driver and lone occupant of the Nissan was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police said further investigation revealed that the driver of the Kia, Elijah A. White of Broadview, disregarded the red-light signal while travelling in excess of 90 mph five seconds prior to the impact.
Investigators partnered with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office who on Friday approved one count of reckless homicide, a Class 3 Felony.
White will attend a detention hearing Saturday at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
