On 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, we all set our clocks back an hour for the end of Daylight Savings Time. We finally get that extra hour of sleep that we gave up in spring.
Except for us pet owners. I don’t think pets practice Daylight Savings Time and want to get up, eat, be exercised at the same time they are used to daily. So, it can be a gradual adjustment for our furry friends.
South of West Elsdon: this Saturday, Nov. 4 there will be another concert at the West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St. Gabriel Bianco will be performing French classical guitar starting at 7 p.m. Admission is free. This concert is presented by Chicago Artopia.
Halloween festivities are over. Now we move to Thanksgiving, but Christmas is already being thrown at us on television and in stores.
Just in time to share for Thanksgiving is the “Archer Avenue Cookie Walk” in Garfield Ridge. The walk takes place on Nov. 18 between New England and Nashville. To participate, a cookie tin needs to be purchased for $20. This event is sponsored by the Midway Chamber of Commerce, which includes businesses on all sides of the airport. Representatives from CIBC Bank visited the students at Sts. Bruno and Richard School. Students were taught the importance of financial literacy. We all should have a money-savvy piggy bank. The money-savvy piggy bank should be partitioned into four areas of collection. Money can be allocated among sections for investing, donating, spending and saving.
The folks from St. Turibius will be dancing the night away on Nov. 11 at their Fellowship Dinner Dance to be held at Mayfield Banquets, 6072 S. Archer, from 6 to 11 p.m. Tickets are on sale now for $55.
Nov. 11 is also Veterans Day – the anniversary of the end of World War I and a day to honor our nation’s military veterans. Federal offices and Chicago Public Schools will be off on Nov. 10 to honor this day.
Finally, thanks to all who sent birthday wishes my way. I took a week off to enjoy a vacation with a friend in San Antonio. I would highly recommend anyone traveling to visit that lovely city, which is clean and safe. Let’s all “Remember the Alamo.”
