Orland and Palos Heights firefighters responded to a structure fire early Saturday morning at a hookah lounge located in a corner surrounded by forest preserve land.
At 5:06 a.m. on Oct. 21, companies of the Orland Fire Protection District and Palos Heights Fire District were dispatched in response to a possible structure fire at the Al-Hayba Hookah Lounge, 13500 S. Harlem Ave. on the southwest corner. It had many previous incarnations including, most recently, an ale house and a late-night sports bar before that.
Palos Heights firefighters were first on the scene and reported fire showing through a second-floor window on the west side of the commercial structure.
The incident was upgraded to a full-still rural water response due to lack of hydrants in the area. Crews attacked the fire with the use of two hand lines and had the fire under control in approximately 20-30 minutes.
A search of the structure found no victims or occupants.
The fire was extinguished with the help of multiple surrounding departments including the Tinley Park Fire Department, Crestwood Fire Department, Alsip Fire Department, Lemont Fire Department, Frankfort Fire Department, North Palos Fire Department, Homer Fire Department and NW Homer Fire Department.
There were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
