You can ring my bell, bell, bell, ring my bell!

We have had our house phone (land line) for years, paying monthly for it. The past few years the only calls we receive for the most part are “Unavailable” or “Illinois Call,” etc. We finally decided to disconnect it and rely on our mobiles.

So, if you have late breaking news that needs to be published, please contact me at (773) 517-7796. Or you can contact my trusted assistant, Robert, at (773) 457-2291.

Stop by the Archer Heights Branch Library, 5055 S. Archer, to register for a bead-making class. You can create a beautiful illusion/floating necklace on Saturday Dec. 9 from 2 to 3 p.m. But space is limited, so please register at the circulation desk as soon as possible, if interested.

There are also various activities planned for this month for teens and adults.

A haunted house will be held, along with arts and crafts, on Monday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m. Costumes are encouraged!

Our plogging (picking up garbage) event was cancelled for the 14th due to inclement weather. Yes, the weather and time are sure changing. But one can always pick up garbage around the block and neighborhood. It seems like a never-ending job, but it’s worth keeping the area clean.

Bingo will be played at St. Richard hall, 50th and Kenneth, on Saturday, Oct. 21. The doors will open at 4:30 p.m., and the games will start at 6.

To commemorate the arrival of the first Polish setters in Jamestown, Va. in October 1608 and to remember the death of Casimir Pulaski (the father of the American Cavalry), we celebrate Polish American Heritage Month. The Garfield Ridge Branch Library, 6348 S. Archer, is having an interesting event honoring Polish American women writers on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A panel of female authors will share their stories and perspectives on their culture and heritage.

I am going to wish early Happy Birthdays to several of my friends. I will be taking next week off. If all goes well, I will be in San Antonio with my dear friend from Seattle, Denise. We had planned for March 2023 but COVID-19 struck me instead.

Happy Birthday to Lois DeFelice on the 27th. On the 29th Happy Birthdays go to Sue Kremnitzer Pawlak and Elvira Flores.
