On Wednesday, September 27, the Manteno Woman’s Club met at Manteno Sportsman’s Club for lunch, with 34 members in attendance. Jeff Jarvis, who was the club’s guest speaker, talked about the Manteno Historical Society, after which the club presented Jarvis with a donation for the society.
Also, a Sherlock Holmes-themed book will be donated to the Manteno Library in memory of Shirley Bender, a club member for many years who recently passed away. The organization donates a book to the library in the name of a current member upon her death. In addition to donating $100 every September to the Historical Society, the Woman’s Club also awards an annual scholarship for a Manteno School District resident graduating from high school.
The club’s next meeting is scheduled for October 25 at noon. Members are asked to bring new unwrapped toys, which will be given to young residents of Harbor House for Christmas. New members are always welcome. Please contact Annette LaMore for more information at 815-325-9481.
