Engines roared Oct. 10 as law enforcement officers from across Illinois took to the track for the annual Five-O Racing fundraiser, raising money for Special Olympics Illinois.
The Hometown Police Department raised $44,200 for the cause, earning the event’s “Top Fundraiser” championship belt. All participating departments combined raised $187,000.

The annual event is part of the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, bringing police departments together to raise money through fundraising and stock car racing.
Hometown police also made their mark on the track, finishing first in their heat race and third overall in the main event feature race.
The department has participated in the event for several consecutive years, with fundraising efforts supported by local residents, businesses, family members and friends.
“I have such an immense sense of pride, coming from such a small agency and seeing our community, family and friends all come together to donate to the Special Olympics,” Hometown Police Chief Louis Dominguez said.
Special Olympics Illinois provides sports training and competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The organization promotes physical fitness, courage, joy and inclusion while creating opportunities for athletes to build confidence and a sense of belonging.
The Hometown Police Department thanked the residents and businesses that donated to help raise the $44,200, as well as everyone who came to the track to cheer on the department.
The fundraising success reflects the generosity of the Hometown community and its continued commitment to supporting Special Olympics Illinois and its athletes.
