Let us all remember to reflect this Monday on Patriot Day, a day we will never forget.
Some of the best times I had as a young girl were as a Girl Scout. Starting with Brownies to Troop 1705, from St. Turibius under Mrs. M’s direction, we had a blast doing crafts and taking field trips. The best were the camp outings.
Boy Scout Troop 42 is calling for adventure. The troop meets in the St. Joseph Room at St. Bruno School on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, visit BeAScout.org. The Scoutmaster is Mike Romo, who can be reached at (773) 971-3945.

Larry Majka, a 1974 graduate of St. Bruno School, is wondering if any other fellow classmates want to plan a 50th reunion. If any of you are out there and interested, please contact me and I will contact Larry. The way time flies, 2024 will be here in no time.
There is a cello concert this Saturday, Sept. 9 at West Lawn Branch Library. Ian Maksin will perform starting at 7 p.m.
Mexico was once a colony ruled by Spain, while the Mexican population was oppressed. A priest named Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla delivered a speech on Sept. 16, 1810 demanding Mexico become an independent country. A war ensued and Mexico became independent. Since then, every Sept. 16 is celebrated as Mexican Independence Day. There will be a parade in Little Village at noon. I only hope that in the evening and nighttime hours, the day will be respected and honored with dignity and peace.
I take the CTA Orange Line to the Pulaski stop quite frequently, with my husband picking me up. He enters and exits the parking lot via Keeler. It now appears that the Keeler entrance is barricaded with a small sign saying all must enter on 51st Street. I can only think of what a traffic debacle that will become. I will keep you posted as I will take the Orange Line on upcoming Thursdays.
Happy Anniversary to my good friends Pat and Russ Charleston. Happy Birthday wishes go to fellow correspondent Kathy Headley and to Karen Boyes. Finally, Happy Birthday to my husband Robert (Bob) Stanek. The dark brown hair has changed to grey; the gait moves a little slower, the bed time starts a little earlier, and senior moments sometimes set in, but that is life – so enjoy your 75th!
