A 45-year-old Garfield Ridge man has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery and one misdemeanor count of battery in connection with an attack at a West Lawn tattoo shop.

Jon M. Lasso, of the 5100 block of South Massasoit, was arrested in the 6900 block of South Pulaski at 6:08 p.m. Saturday, July 29, minutes after an attack occurred at Shred’s Inferno, 4304 W. 63rd St.

Police said that shortly before Lasso was arrested, he stabbed a 50-year-old man and beat a 24-year-old man. They offered no other details, but family members identified the older victim as Dave “Shred” Kunesh, a longtime tattoo artist and owner of the shop.

From his hospital bed, Kunesh said Lasso entered the shop and caused a disturbance, arguing with and throwing punches at one of Kunesh’s sons. When Kunesh reportedly wrestled Lasso to the floor, Lasso allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed the elder Kunesh in the back, puncturing a lung.

Bond was set at $25,000. Lasso was due in court last week.

According to public records, Lasso has been arrested four times by CPD since 2016 on such charges as criminal trespass to land and public indecency.

In an online plea, Kunesh’s son, Marc said, “As you can imagine, with my dad unable to work, our financial situation has become really tough. The medical bills are already piling up, and on top of that, there are the bills for his shop and our home. I’m worried about how we’ll manage everything and keep the roof over our heads and the shop running.”

As of late last week, 167 people donated a total of $12,143—about a fourth of the way to a $50,000 goal. To donate, visit https://gofund.me/d9a50dfb.
