NORMAN SOBOL, FORMER PALOS HILLS POLICE CHIEF

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas G. Sobol and Emily A. Sobol (nee Svrljuga). He is survived by his loving wife Shirley (nee Dombey) and his three children, daughter Jeanne (and Cindy) Sobol, daughter Nancy (and Roger) Van Vlerah, and son Scott (and Theresa) Sobol; and his sister, Delores (James) Spain; and many nieces and nephews.  Norman had three beautiful grandchildren, Kristen (and Joe) Zelek, Vicki (and Ryan) Nemeczek, and Matthew (and Katie) Sobol. Norman was blessed with two precious great grandchildren, Celine Zelek and Vanessa Sobol.

Norm loved his family and cherished moments spent with family.

Norm worked at Argonne National Laboratory in Lemont for 16 years. Norm was a third-degree Mason and proud of his Masonic heritage and accomplishments.

Norm served in the Army right out of high school and was stationed in Germany during the Korean conflict. When he returned, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley.

Norm and his family were longtime residents of Hometown, where he served as a police officer, eventually retiring as captain. He also served as police chief in Palos Hills.

Norm served many years as an officer in the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3.

Norm worked as a service technician and salesman for Leeds and Northrup, Fisher Porter and Foxboro. He could repair and build most anything!

Norm was an accomplished marksman and loved to fish and play golf.

Funeral services were held August 1 at Palos- Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Hwy., Palos Hills. A private family interment took place at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.

The family asks that remembrances be made in Norman’s name to the charity of your choice.

WILLIAM J. THOMETZ 

William J. Thometz, of Palos Hills, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 23.

He was the loving husband of the late Marlene (nee Becvar) Thometz, who preceded him in death on April 6, 2022. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, John R. and Louise (nee Schick) Thometz. A cherished brother, Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, John (the late Anne), Richard (Laura), Charles (Sue), and his sister, Ruth (the late Edmund) Jung. Bill was a dear uncle to many wonderful nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Bill was close to the Thometz and Becvar extended families and dear friend of George Becvar.

Bill was a school counselor in the Chicago Public Schools, active in many Catholic organizations, and a longtime member of the Secular Franciscan Order.

Bill will be remembered for his devotion to family, his deep faith, and his kindness.

Funeral services were held at the Becvar & Son Funeral Home, 5539 W. 127th Street, Crestwood. Interment St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Catholic Charities, 721 N. LaSalle Street, Chicago.

Joe “Tony” Treviso passed away peacefully July 27, with his loving family at his side.

He was the loving and devoted husband for 35 years to Martha (nee Salinas); cherished father of Priscilla Treviso  and Vanessa Treviso; proud grandfather of Liana; dear brother of Daniel Treviso and the late Manuel and late Robert. Preceded in death by his mother, Maria Treviso.  He will be dearly missed by his many brothers –in law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held July 31 at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th street just west of Harlem). Visitation was held at the funeral home August 1 until time of Celebration of Life Service. Per his request, Tony will be cremated.

Robert Vicenteno passed away July 28.

Loving father of Natacio Vicenteno, Fantasia Vicenteno, Roberto Jr. Vicenteno, Elizabeth Vicenteno and Victoria Vicenteno; dear son of Elvia Vicenteno and the late Roberto Vicenteno. He will be missed by his many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and Natasha, the mother of his children.

A Memorial Visitation in Celebration of Robert will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th street just west of Harlem). A Mass will be scheduled for Friday.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Geraldine, four daughters; Catherine (Nick), Karen (Lonny), Denise (Dianne), and Darlene (Will), and was the proud grandfather of Ian, Lauren, and Lindsy. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Katie Walen; brothers Bobby and Edward and is survived by Russell and (Wild) Bill. He will be greatly missed by his extended family members and friends. The family would like to thank the many caregivers from NW Hospice and the local Veterans Association for all their care and compassion.

Visitation was held July 26 at Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Hwy., Palos Hills, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Church, 8245 W 111th St., Palos Hills. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
