“The Birds in our Backyards,” is the name of the new mural along the north side of Peck School. It really is a pretty mural depicting the various types of birds that can be seen in the neighborhood trees.
Take a stop on by and also visit the garden on Springfield. Take a rest and enjoy the various plants, flowers, and birds at the feeders.
The next plogging event (clean up of the community) will be held Saturday, July 15. I initially reported a few weeks ago that it would be held on June 10, but due to graduations and time constraints it has been changed. Please bring garbage bags, gloves or a trash grabber and meet up at the corner of 55th and Lawndale. It is also a great way to meet neighborhood friends. See you there at 10 a.m.
I attended the Beat 822/824 Caps meeting on Tuesday, June 6. It was a good meeting. Thank you to the 8th District and officers from Beat 822.
At the meeting, some mention was made about the number of refugees who will be living at Daley College, which is city owned. From what I understood, they will be housed in two buildings and the gym. There will be shelter rules and a curfew
enforced as well.
The special guest at the CAPS meeting was OEMC (Office of Emergency Management and Communications) representative George Liebentritt. He gave a presentation on making the right call — 911 or 311. A flyer was also handed out explaining for what reasons to call these numbers.
For instance, a call to 311 can be made for graffiti removal, garbage issues, rodents, stray animals, street lights out, and potholes, just to name a few. On the other hand, 911 calls should be made when a situation requires immediate police or fire response, such as shots fired, burglaries, drag racing, etc.
But one thing was mentioned, if you are not sure what number to call, go ahead and call 911.
And it is always a pleasure to meet with representatives of Ald. Silvana Tabares’ (23rd) office.
St. Richard bingo is back! It was last played in 2020. The bingo will be held on Saturday, June 17 in St. Richard Church Hall, 5032 S. Kostner Ave. Bingo starts at 6 p.m.
It’s always nice to support our neighboring parishes, especially for a fun time and great bands. Head on over to St. Daniel the Prophet Summerfest. Its currently running through Sunday, June 18.
