Worth FOP golfers chip in for SD127 school board

Worth Mayor Mary Werner praised the efforts of the police department for their work on what she said was another successful FOP golf outing.
“I always like to start a meeting with a check presentation,” Werner said at the Worth Village Board meeting Wednesday night. “It was another great event and it’s wonderful we can donate to the school board.”
Sgt. Mike Cozzi presented a check for $6,700 to members of the Worth School Board 127 from the proceeds gathered at the golf outing that took place at Water’s Edge Golf Course in the village recently.
“I just want to thank Sgt. Cozzi for the hard work he put in,” said Police Chief Tim Denton. “I want to thank him, Deputy Chief Cris Hernandez and Lisa Ratajczak for everything they have done. It has been a blessing.”
Trustee Pete Kats, who is the head of public safety committee, was appreciative of the FOP and the annual golf outing.
“A shout-out goes to our police department with the golf course and the FOP outing,” Kats said. “They have always done a great job with this.”
The mayor said the Outdoor Music Fest will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Marrs-Meyer American Legion Post 991, 11001 S. Depot St.
Admission is free and there is never a charge. The featured band will be the Taylor Street Band. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase.
Trustee Brad Urban said heavy rains that fell on the village Wednesday created a little havoc with some Evergreen trees down due to the downfall and high winds.
“We did have some tree damage,” said Urban, the head of the public works committee. “They (public works) were pretty busy cleaning up the trees.”
An ordinance was approved to reward a contract with Thatcher Oaks Inc. and Illinois Corporation for the replacement of an awning at the north end of Village. Hall.
The replacement of the awning was not going to exceed $16,800, according to village officials.
Trustee Rich Dziedzic asked when the awning would be replaced. Village Clerk Bonnie Price responded that they are waiting for a bid on erecting a new railing. When that takes place, both projects will begin, Price said.
The next Ace of Hearts Raffle will take place Sunday, July 9, at the Marrs-Meyer American Legion Post 991. The event is sponsored by the auxiliary. Ticket sales will end that day at 3:45 p.m.
More information can be obtained by calling the post, 708-448-7006, or email marrs-meyeraux@comcast.net.
The post is also contributing to the Operation Barnabas Care Package. Some of the items that residents can provide are protein bars, Kool Aid or similar singles, hot chocolate, hot cider packets, Slim Jims, summer sausage, beef sticks, dried fruits, fruit snacks, cup-a-soup, trail mix single packs, nuts, sunflower seeds, pre-packaged cookies, instant oatmeal, easy mac and cheese, microwave popcorn, peanut butter, chicken salad, pouched tuna or chicken, and dental floss.
All items must be factory-wrapped and their safety seals must be intact.
National Night Out
The National Night Out event in Worth will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Altman Park, 115th and Beloit, and the boat launch.
Werner reminded the board and residents that the village board meeting that week will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2.
