Trees Forever, an Iowa and Illinois endeavor, announces the appointment of Debra ‘Deb’ Powers as Development Director. In this position, Powers will oversee all fundraising activities for Trees Forever, including the annual appeals, grants, sponsorships, and endowment. Along with traditional duties, Powers will be the staff lead for future capital and special projects campaigns.
Trees Forever has a long-standing reputation for creating national award-winning programs that acquire resources from donors and sponsors to fund its community-minded grassroots projects. On average, more than 81 percent of each dollar contributed to Trees Forever is used directly for the community and landowner programs.
“After spending 14 years fundraising in the music industry and at least that many in social services, I feel as though I landed my dream job,” Powers said. “A few years ago, I became the owner of a travel trailer and fell in love with the outdoors, kayaking, biking, and reading. We have spent many weekends in Iowa campgrounds enjoying the beautiful trees of Iowa.”
Powers is a development professional with two decades of successful experience in leading and funding multiple nonprofits across Iowa. As the former Development Director for Catholic Charities of Des Moines, she more than doubled the organization’s annual appeal, secured grants, and assisted in fundraising and distributions of funds for four Iowa disasters. Powers strongly believes in community collaborations, transparent leadership, and intentional work.
