He was director of the Golf Vista Estates Homeowners Association, chairman of the Police Commission, an election judge, served on the Monee Parks and Recreation Committee, filmed the village board meetings, served on the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and was recognized as Monee’s Volunteer of the Year, riding in the Monee Fall Fest parade, together with Betty as the Grand Marshals. Syd has been described as a real “people person” and enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and neighbors. He also enjoyed golfing, traveling, and bird watching.

Syd leaves three daughters, Tamara (David) McDonald, Deanna (Thomas) Miller, and Cynthia (Michael) Robinson; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Mae; and older sister Patricia Heiser.
