Raymond C. Bloom, 84, of Blue Island, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2023, at Spring Creek Nursing Home in Joliet. Born February 26, 1938, in Harvey, he was the son of Carl and Mildred (Gasperec) Bloom. Raymond married Jean Gayden on November 26, 1977, at Moraine Valley Baptist Church in Palos Heights. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2020.
Raymond, a veteran of the U.S. Army, had worked as an insurance salesman and a security guard. He enjoyed photography, watching all the Chicago sports teams, and was a big supporter of Thornton Township Athletics. He also was a member of Riverdale Baptist Church, Homewood Baptist Church, and Woodlands Community Church.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth (Jessica) Bloom of Bourbonnais and Edmund Bloom of Blue Island; three grandchildren, Lukas Bloom, Jordan Bloom, and Sean Bloom; niece, Dawn (Dan) Bergen of Minnesota; and nephews, Vaughn (Joy) Blackburn of Minnesota and Brian (Joanna) Ellison of South Carolina. In addition to his wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Ellison; and niece, Patricia Thomas.
