COUNTRYSIDE
Man arrested for waving gun at bar
A Chicago man was arrested October 27 for allegedly threatening people with a gun at Time Out Sports Bar, 6025 S. LaGrange Road.
Jose J. Mendoza, 45, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Aggravated assault, battery and disorderly conduct.
Police that at about 5:50 p.m. on October 27 officers responded to a call of a man threatening people with a firearm at the Time Out Sports Bar.
The investigation determined that a man identified as Mendoza was involved in a fight with another patron of the bar.
After the fight, Mendoza allegedly retrieved a firearm from his vehicle in the parking lot and returned to the bar in an apparent attempt to locate the person he was fighting with.
A customer inside the bar was able to disarm Mendoza and escort him out of the bar, police said.
Mendoza was taken in to custody by the responding officers without incident and a firearm was recovered on scene.
Mendoza was transported to the Bridgeview Courthouse for a bond hearing on October 28.
DUI
Jessica Abadia, 38, of Chicago, was arrested for DUI after she was discovered asleep in her vehicle on the roadway at LaGrange Road and Plainfield Road at 7:30 p.m. November 8. She was held for bond.
Motor vehicle theft
On October 15, an unknown offender used a fraudulent credit card and personal information to purchase a 2021 Ford Bronco from Westfield Ford, 6200 S. LaGrange Road. The theft was reported on October 24.
Theft
Unknown offenders cut the lock on the victim’s locker at Esporta, 5917 S. LaGrange, and stole his wallet and keys at 8:40 a.m. October 25. The wallet contained cash and credit cards.
Motor vehicle theft
An offender used the identification of a deceased person to purchase a vehicle on March 23, 2022, from Ettleson Hyundai, 5631 S. LaGrange Road. The crime was reported on October 25.
Busy burglars
Offenders smashed the front window of a Citgo station, 901 W. 55th St. at 2:08 a.m. October 26, but were unable to make entry. The offenders fled the scene in a black sedan possibly a Dodge Charger.
A few minutes earlier, the same offenders broke the glass out of a door at Fuller’s and stole over $17,000 worth of cigarettes. The same offenders were involved in several other burglaries in the area.
Graffiti
Unknown offenders painted graffiti in the skate bowl and other areas of Countryside Park at 7:40 a.m. October 27.
SUMMIT
Vehicle recovered
Summit police and the fire department dive team recovered a submerged vehicle on Thursday, November 10, from the I&M Canal near the old Summit boat launch.
Police said there was nothing suspicious or criminal in nature regarding the vehicle.
Police report information is provided by law enforcement agencies. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions taken, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proved guilty in court.
