An Oak Lawn man has been charged with shooting his 19-year-old son during a fight last Friday morning inside their home.

Mark Pillette, 57, of the 9500 block of Kenneth Avenue, was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

Police said they responded to a call of a person shot about 2:30 a.m. on August 26 in the 9500 block of Kenneth Avenue.

Police said they found the victim had been shot in the abdomen. He was taken by paramedics to Christ Medical Center where he underwent emergency surgery to remove his gallbladder. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Authorities said that Pillette and his son were arguing when they exchanged punches to the face and then struggled in the living room of their home.

Pillette went to the bathroom to clean himself odd and returned to the living room with a chrome revolver and shot his son once before calling 911.

Authorities said the bullet hit the son in the abdomen and exited through his back.

An attorney for Pillette argued during the initial court appearance on Sunday that Pillette acted in self-defense, pointing out that he suffered facial fractures during the fight.

Judge Charles Beach said Pillette did indeed have a swollen eye during his bond hearing.

Beach set bail for Pillette at $100,000. He remained in custody as of Wednesday.

His next court date is scheduled for September 23.
