ILEAP to conduct assessment of Orland Park police
An independent team from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program representing the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police will conduct an on-site assessment of the Orland Park Police Department policies, procedures, management, operations and support services against the established criteria of professional excellence.
The assessment is scheduled for August 29 through 31. During this time, trained assessors from peer agencies across the state will arrive to conduct inspections, file review, and audits of the police department. These representatives of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police will be examining the department to ensure the Orland Park Police Department is worthy of the ILEAP professional status.
The Orland Park Police Department was first awarded this honor in 2012. In 2015, the department moved up to the highest ILEAP Status, Tier 2. Tier 2 expands the professional standards to 180 different standards, each representing best service delivery in the areas of Training, Operations, Administration, and Personnel. The department was Tier 2 reaccredited in 2018 and is aiming for a second reaccreditation this year.
The assessors will determine if the Orland Park Police Department meets and exceeds the standards necessary to achieve ILEAP’s highest level of accreditation.
As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments to the assessment team regarding the Orland Park Police Department’s ability to comply with ILEAP’s professional standards.

The ILEAP accreditation standards are available for review on the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association website www.ilchiefs.org, under the “Programs” tab.
