Thanks to the parents and teachers of Peck School, the location of the library is at the Peck Panther Patch on 58th and Springfield or the vegetable garden at 58th and Hamlin.
I already checked out an awesome puzzle book. I must replace it with another book. There are many children’s books, and a great deal of the books are in Spanish. There was even a John Grisham novel, in Spanish, that I was teasing my husband with. That would be a great way to learn Spanish, since my other attempts at the language have failed.
With a little group effort, both gardens around Peck School are becoming beautiful once again. We have spent some time weeding and planting, along with others. The weather cooperated with a giant rain storm shortly after planting. There is nothing like the nutrients from the sky as opposed to the garden hose.
The “Patch” along Springfield is so peaceful. I love just going there and sitting, watching the birds. The only concern is those “darn” yellow jackets. It was guaranteed that they would be gone by the exterminator.
Back in grade school at St. Turibius, we had many skating parties at Fleetwood Roller Rink, out west in Summit. When the couples skate would come, on my heart would flutter if one of my boy classmates would ask me to skate. Such good memories, my heart is still fluttering!
On June 12 there will be a fundraiser at Fleetwood: “Donate and Skate” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. It benefits the American Cancer Society. The fee is $8, which includes skate rental. For more information, contact Phil at (773) 809-1245.
There is a new health care facility, UI Health on 55th Place and Pulaski. I thought I saw some activity there this past week. It will bring the West Elsdon community access to medical specialty care and advanced diagnostics.

Some good news for our local Catholic parishes: both St. Mary Star of the Sea and St. Turibius will continue to remain separate parishes. The Augustinian Fathers are committed to St. Turibius through 2026.
Happy Memorial Day to all – time to bring out the white shorts and shoes! But please remember, the day to remember and honor the men and women who died while serving in the United States military.
