RevCorcoranREV. EDWARD G. CORCORAN

Rev. Edward G. Corcoran, 91, pastor emeritus of St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Parish (also known as Little Flower Parish) in Chicago, passed away March 28.

Fr. Corcoran was born on July 14, 1930, in Chicago. He attended St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic School in Chicago, Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago, and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein.

He was ordained to the priesthood on May 1, 1956, by Cardinal Samuel Stritch, and celebrated his first solemn Mass on May 6 of the same year at St. Helena of the Cross Parish in Chicago.

Fr. Corcoran’s first assignment was at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish on South Throop Street in Chicago where he served for seven years. Later, he continued to serve in the assistant pastor role at Ss. Faith, Hope & Charity Parish in Winnetka and Our Lady of Grace Parish on Ridgeway Avenue in Chicago.

Fr. Corcoran also served as associate pastor at St. Agnes Parish in Chicago Heights, St. Fabian Parish in Bridgeview and St. Leonard Parish in Berwyn, and was pastor of St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Parish for 14 years.

In addition, Fr. Corcoran served for 11 years as spiritual director of the North America Indigenous Ministries.

Rev. William Corcoran, pastor at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, first met Fr. Corcoran at St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Parish where they worked together. Despite the 26 years age gap, Edward Corcoran and William Corcoran became close friends. “He was very kind and patient with others,” Corcoran said. “He loved his parishioners and was a great cheerleader for their betterment.”

Edward Corcoran had a great apostolic spirit, his friend said. After retirement, he went out to the Diocese of San Diego to help the Native American Missions.

Visitation hours will be from 3-9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, and from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, just before the funeral Mass, which will take place at 11 a.m. All funeral services will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 9300 W. 167th Street, in Orland Hills.

Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, will be the main celebrant, and Rev. William Corcoran will be the homilist of the funeral Mass. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Alsip.

Loving wife of the late Emilio Escobedo Cerda; cherished daughter of the late Ines Mata and Assuncion Mata (Almendarez); beloved sister of the late Anselmo and Lupe Mata and the late Luis Mata; dear mother of Jesus and Marcia Escobedo, Rebecca Nunez, Estela Reza, Emilio and Susana Escobedo, Lourdes and Joe Mitre, Luis and Francisca Escobedo, and Enrique and Tracey Escobedo; loving grandmother of Adabel and Mariano Rosa, Jovani and Tina Mitre, Veronica and David Gorson, Anthony and Monicca Stanley, German Nunez, Reymundo and Virginia Rodriguez, Jesus and Vivriana Escobedo, Emilio Escobedo, Lorelei Escobedo, Lizette Escobedo, Alejandro Escobedo, Fernando Reza, Natalie Escobedo, Gabrielle Escobedo, and Julian Escobedo; cherished great-grandmother of Thalia Perez, Naomi Gorson, Caleb Gorson, Maximo Barrios, Aiden Mitre Menes, Castielle Rosa, La Juanice Mitre, Jovani Mitre, Gianni Mitre, Cedric Rodriguez, Claudio Rodriguez, Serena Escobedo, and Sienna Escobedo.

Visitation was March 11 at Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home, 7861 S. 88th Avenue, Justice. Funeral was March 12 from the funeral home to Saint Bede the Venerable Church, 8200 S. Kostner Ave., Chicago, for mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Justice. 

MartinMARGARET MARIE MARTIN 

Margaret Marie Martin, 81, a Bedford Park resident for many years, passed away March 28.

Loving sister of Herbert J. Martin; cherished daughter of the late Herbert L. and Anne Martin; dear aunt of Teresa M. (Donald) Baron and Michael L. Martin; great aunt of John D. “J.D.” Martin- Baron and Amy L. Baron.

In lieu of flowers and donations, the family asks that you plant a flower in remembrance of Marie.

Visitation was April 3 at Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium, 7861 S. 88th Avenue, Justice, with a Service and Time of Remembrance held at the funeral home. Cremation rites to be accorded.

Louis Monge, 73, passed away March 30.

Arrangements and visitation were held at Szykowny Funeral Home, 4901 S. Archer. Chapel Service was held at Szykowny Funeral Home. Final resting place is Resurrection Cemetery.

Cecilia “Ceil” Mary Ogarek (nee Cahill), 78, passed away March 25 while surrounded by her family.

Beloved wife of Joseph Ogarek (Ret. CPD Sgt. 001); loving mother to Margaret “Peg” Ogarek, Joseph Ogarek, Catherine “Katie” Ogarek, and the late Mary Ogarek; cherished sister to Michael (Connie) Cahill, Hugh (Maureen) Cahill, James Cahill, Patrick Cahill and daughter of the late Margaret and Leslie Cahill. Ceil was a favorite aunt, adoring great-aunt, fond cousin to many, and a cherished friend to all who knew her.

Victoria Patrylak, 102, of Barrington, formerly of Chicago’s Lawndale community, passed away peacefully April 3.

Victoria was the loving mother of the late Ronald (late Mary) Patrylak, Rita (James) Cady, the late Slyvester Patrylak and Roy (Donna) Patrylak; beloved grandmother of Christopher (Beth) Patrylak, George (Roxanne) Patrylak, Joseph (Doreen Ritter) Kusch, Jeffrey (Mary Tolford) Kusch, Mark (Adriana) Patrylak, Brad (Deanna) Patrylak and Michael Patrylak; loving great grandmother of 11.

She was a Cook County Sheriff’s Deputy for the Criminal Courts, a precinct captain for the 23rd Ward of Chicago, and sang in the choir at Good Shepherd Church.

Visitation was April 8 at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. in Summit. Visitation was April 9 at the funeral home. Procession from the funeral home to St. Daniel the Prophet Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.

Elzbieta Pietraszek (nee Kumorek), 90, passed away March 17.

Beloved wife of the late Walenty Pietraszek; loving mother of Bozena (the late Walenty) Budz, Andrzej (Anna) Pietraszek, Bogumila Hudson, Halina (Wincenty) Soltys, and Jacek (Halina) Pietraszek; dearest grandmother and great-grandmother of many; cherished daughter of the late Antoni and the late Zofia (Nee Pawlik) Kumorek. Also survived by numerous relatives and friends.

Visitation was March 18 at Damar-Kaminski Funeral Home & Crematorium, 7861 S. 88th Avenue, Justice. Funeral was March 19 from the funeral home to Saint Fabian Catholic Church, 7450 W. 83rd Street, Bridgeview, for Mass. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Justice. 

CAELIA HOPE RAMIREZ-CARBAJAL

Caelia Hope Ramirez-Carbajal, of Summit, passed away March 26.

Cherished daughter of Sheila Ramirez and Matilde Carbajal; much loved little sister of Aramis James Carbajal, Laliela Cathalina Ramirez, Jacob Frank Carbajal, Tahlia Rose Carbajal and Ethan Anthony Carbajal; adored granddaughter of Mary Grace Perez and Eulogio Carbajal. Caelia will be remembered always by her many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services were private. Caelia is resting at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Foran Funeral Home.

Beloved husband of Jolanta (nee Grochowska) Sumara; loving father of Sebastian (Edyta) Sumara and Kathy Sliva (Nicholas Hahn); dear grandfather of Matt Sliva, George Sliva and Ania Sumara; dearest great-grandfather of Maddox Sliva and Colton Sliva; cherished son of the late Julia (nee Zelazna) and the late Jozef Sumara; fond brother of Edward (Lucy) Sumara and Krystyna (Andrzej) Pitas. Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Marlene Thometz, nee Becvar, 80, of Palos Hills passed away on April 6.

She was the beloved wife of William. Loving sister of James (Tina) Becvar and Linda (Daniel) O’Brien. Dear aunt of Sean O’Brien.

She was a retired Chicago Public School teacher.

Visitation was April 9 at the Becvar & Son Funeral Home, 5539 W. 127th Street, Crestwood, to Sacred Heart Church, 8245 W. 111th Street, Palos Hills. Mass. Interment St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park.

Roseann J. VanNunen, 92, a longtime resident of Chicago Ridge, passed away on April 9.

Loving mother of Janice (Dennis) Kitching and Nancy Martin. Proud grandmother of Tim (Susan) Richards, Jim (Kim) Martin and Kristy (Ron) Starcevic and great grandmother of R.J. and Ryan Starcevic.

Roseann was a longtime member of the Chicago Ridge Senior Club.

Visitation was April 14 at the Schmaedeke Funeral Home, 10701 S. Harlem Ave., Worth. Chapel service was Friday. Interment Fairmount Willow Hills Cemetery.

Also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
