Teen driver charged in crash that killed Alsip girl
By Bob Bong
A juvenile was charged by Palos Heights police Monday with reckless homicide and reckless driving in the December 27 crash that killed a 14-year-old girl from Alsip and injured six other people.
Palos Heights police did not identify the juvenile because of the driver’s age.
The driver was charged with one count of reckless homicide for the death of Madison Harrison and four counts of aggravated reckless driving. The juvenile was turned over to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Facility.
Police said they were dispatched to the area near West College Drive and Princeton Lane for a three-vehicle crash with personal injuries.
One vehicle involved had six juvenile occupants. Three of those occupants were ejected from the vehicle. It was determined after an extensive investigation that this vehicle’s driver was the cause of the collision and drove in a manner that violated multiple traffic violations and resulted in the death of one of the passengers and multiple other passengers suffering severe injuries.
Investigators were able to download one of the juvenile passenger’s cell phones that put the vehicle’s GPS speed at 60 mph in a 45-mph zone. It was determined from multiple witnesses and road evidence that the vehicle left the roadway while passing another eastbound vehicle on the right. The vehicle violated multiple traffic control signs. The vehicle came back onto the roadway, entered oncoming traffic and collided with two westbound vehicles.
