Justice swears in new police officer

The Justice Village Board approved the recommendation of the Justice Fire and Police Commission to hire Police Officer Kady Sassenger at its January 10 meeting.

Her move from the Coal City Police Department to Justice is considered a lateral move, which means the officer transfers from one department to another for the same pay.

After the vote to approve her hiring, Mayor Kris Wasowicz gave her the oath of office while Police Chief Kraig McDermott and other members of the Justice Police Department looked on.

Later, during his village president’s report, Wasowicz read a letter of proclamation designating January 23-29 as Village of Justice School Choice Week.   That’s in conjunction with National School Choice Week, which is a time for families to discover the school choice options that are available to them.

During the clerk’s report, Village Clerk Dave Kroll mentioned that he was now officially a Registrar with Cook County, and anyone wishing to register to vote, can come into his office during normal business hours to do so.

Kroll is also a Notary Public and offers those services to Justice residents free of charge.

During her Administration, Communications and Recreation Report, Trustee Fran Mills announced that as 10 a.m. January 10, dispatch services for the Roberts Park Fire Protection District were now being provided by Southwest Central Dispatch.

“We are excited about the new partnership and the communication opportunities it will bring,” said Mills. “We want to thank the City of Hickory Hills Dispatch Center and its telecommunicators for their years of service and professionalism to our members and our residents.”
