Students, parents and teachers gathered at Willow Springs School on Wednesday evening, Oct. 28, for District 108’s first Family Reading Night.
Teachers shared some of their favorite books with students and families, and families could also buy books to take home.
Parents for Children, known as PFC, sold pizza and water at the event and supported it, according to the district.
The parent group holds fundraisers throughout the school year, and the profits go back to students.
PFC also gives $5 per student toward year-end picnics and funds eighth-grade scholarships and a scholarship to Argo High School.
“It’s great to see our teachers, parents, and students come together to celebrate reading,” school board President Joe Bonomo said in the district’s announcement.
Bonomo thanked Superintendent William Seidelmann, Principal Rachel Skala, Librarian Korinne Kustak, PFC President Rebekka Abraham, and the school’s teachers and staff.
The district said it plans to hold more family events but did not announce dates.
