Rev. Daniel F. Jarosewic, a retired Archdiocese of Chicago priest who served parishes in the city and the southwest suburbs, died Oct. 27. He was 81.
Jarosewic was most recently associate pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Homewood, now St. John Neumann Parish.
He was born Sept. 3, 1945, in Chicago. He attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in Mundelein.
Cardinal John Cody ordained him a priest May 12, 1971. He celebrated his first solemn Mass three days later at the former St. John of God Parish.
He served as assistant pastor at St. Constance Parish on Strong Street in Chicago, St. Linus Parish in Oak Lawn and St. Camillus Parish on Lockwood Avenue in Chicago. He was associate pastor at St. Albert the Great Parish in Burbank, St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish in Oak Lawn, St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish on 64th Street in Chicago and St. Joseph Parish in Homewood.
“He probably was the smartest guy in our class,” said the Rev. Joseph Mulcrone, a classmate and director of the Catholic Office of the Deaf. “He read everything: magazines, books, newspaper articles.”
Mulcrone said Jarosewic had no ambition beyond parish work, no desire to become a canon lawyer or seminary professor.
“He simply wanted to be there to minister to God’s people,” Mulcrone said. “That is really who he was.”
Visitation is scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 3 at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. The funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Nov. 4 at St. Raphael Church, 1215 Modaff Road, Naperville. Bishop Robert Fedek, an auxiliary bishop of Chicago, will celebrate the Mass, and the Rev. Mark Canavan, a classmate of Jarosewic’s, will give the homily.
Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
