The City of Palos Heights approved a motion to hire a new full-time finance director at its City Council meeting on Oct. 20.
The board voted unanimously to approve the creation of the position, which is currently listed on the city website.
As the city is preparing to begin overseeing its work to revitalizing the downtown area on Harlem Avenue, as well as managing new state regulations, the position was deemed necessary.
“This is really needed right now,” said Ald. Michael McGrogan. “There are so many things coming up with state regulations we want to be able to stay ahead of it. This is really a dollar well spent to save $10.”
The ‘dollar well spent’ for the position amounts to a salary range between $100,000 and $120,0000, according to the city website, in addition to full-time insurance and retirement benefits.
The Assistant Finance Director will reportedly assist with “accounting, budgeting, payroll, utility billing, grant reporting, and auditing” among other responsibilities. The Assistant Finance Director will also manage the finance department in the absence of the city Finance Director.
Mayor Robert Straz stated that the city is beginning the interviewing process for the role and said the city administration hopes to have the position filled before the end of the year.
