Danuta Maria Rogowska, known as Danusia, came from generations of Gdańsk sea and port workers. After moving to the United States in 2005, she found a piece of her home city on the shores of Lake Michigan, where she loved to watch the sailboats, the water and the Chicago skyline.
She died Oct. 21, 2026, in Palos Park after a battle with a neuroendocrine tumor. She was 67.
She was born Jan. 27, 1959, in Gdańsk. Her grandfather, father, brother, father-in-law and many other relatives worked with ships and in the port, and her love for the sea stayed with her throughout her life, her family wrote.
She loved the sun, flowers, family traditions and long meals around the table. She was a wonderful hostess, her family wrote, and her chicken soup was the taste of home.
Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. Laura and Fabiann could always count on her wise counsel. She took her younger granddaughters to the park, painted the girls’ nails, took Maria to swimming lessons and spoiled the children with their favorite Kinder treats.
She is survived by Lech Rogowski, her husband of 45 years; her children, Kamila and Przemysław; her children-in-law, Ania and Grzegorz; and her grandchildren, Laura and Fabiann Rabiczko, and Gabriela, Maria and Julia Rogowska.
