All seems well with Brain Boost Tutoring in Orland Park.
Since hosting a ribbon cutting on April 23, owner Ameena AbuAwad has gone through an emotional rollercoaster as her son got into a serious scooter accident and she said the learning center lost staff members and students.
But things are looking better for Brain Boost. AbuAwad said her son recently finished rehab. The staff and students have been replenished. And the Brain Boost organization received a positive boost on Oct. 5 when the Village of Orland Park Board of Trustees named it the Business of the Month for October.
Mayor James Dodge read a proclamation that Brain Boost “offers specialized, compassionate educational programs for students with individualized learning needs, helping every child build confidence and succeed,” and “reflects the spirit and community investment that exemplifies the Orland Park community.”
AbuAwad said it was an honor to receive the award and was also proud of some of the work Brain Boost Tutoring, located at 14624 John Humphrey Dr., has provided.
“We’ve seen amazing success stories so far,” she said. “There is a student at Sandburg with dyslexia. And that student right now is reading at about 130 words in eight weeks. We’ve had students with ADHD who are in with regular students right now.
“There are students who need the extra support that they need with both parents working. It’s wonderful because everybody works differently. Some kids pick up well and some kids pick up slow.”
She said she is happy to provide a service for an array of students with needs.
“We’re there for everyone and we have a wide variety of students,” she said. “I offer diversity. We have all languages, all races, all colors and accept them. We give comfort to every student.”
