A young fan named Molly won first place and a $750 Visa gift card at Bedford Park’s Southside Playoff Pep Rally & Baseball Costume Contest on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Wintrust Sports Complex.
The village invited fans of all ages to wear their Southside gear and get creative for a shot at prizes for the top three costumes. Eleven people entered.
Along with the gift card, which could go toward playoff tickets, Molly’s first prize included round-trip ground transportation for two to one postseason game within 50 miles, from OML Worldwide Transportation.
Kevin took second place, winning a $300 Visa gift card and a year of free car washes from Gas N Wash through its Extreme car wash membership. Parker placed third and won a $150 Visa gift card.
The rally ran from 5 to 8 p.m. at the complex, 5499 W. 65th St. Nicky V’s of Bedford Park provided a free hot dog buffet, and soft drinks were also free. Adult beverages were sold in the bar area to guests 21 and older.
Adam Collopy, who represents the village as a co-business officer and ambassador, said the event was Bedford Park’s first South Side playoff pep rally. He thanked Mayor David Brady, the village trustees and the sports complex staff.
“It was great just to see all ages,” Collopy said.
The rally came ahead of Game 3. Collopy said the village wanted “to do our best to bring the community together to show our support and just be very thankful for baseball fans.”
He said baseball and sports bring generations together.
“We had a wonderful evening out here and we’re so very grateful for that,” he said.
