A pair of proclamations are being recognized and a series of activities are being offered in Evergreen Park this month.
Domestic violence was condemned during the Evergreen Park Village Board meeting Monday night. Mayor Kelly Burke noted that violence against women and children remains prevalent in society.
According to the proclamation, domestic violence is not confined to any group of people and crosses all economic, gender, racial, and societal barriers.
Burke proclaimed the month of October as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month.” The community is urged “to join forces with victim service providers, criminal justice officials, and concerned citizens across the country to raise the public awareness of domestic violence issues,” according to the proclamation.
The second proclamation of the month is “Halloween in the Village of Evergreen Park” on Saturday, Oct. 31, the day of the holiday. The proclamation states that “Halloween is a day of enjoyment and merriment for the young at heart of the community.”
Trick-or-treat hours
Burke said that trick-or-treat hours on Halloween in the village will be from noon until 7 p.m. The mayor and trustees have established the hours in the best interests and safety of children in the community.
In related news, a Halloween Parade will be held from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at Sexton Park, 9100 S. Rockwell. Burke said it is a fun event for kids and the whole family.
Business of the Month
Burke also congratulated Wolf’s Bakery at 3241 W. 95th St. for being selected as the “Business of the Month.”
“Wolf’s Bakery has been a valued and beloved part of the village since 1939,” Burke said. “We are honored to name them as our next Business of the Month and wish them many more years of continued success at Evergreen Park.”
New businesses
The Board approved a business certificate for Solstice Wellness Center, 3550 W. 95th St., which plans to be a facility to assist in health improvements that include traditional saunas and a cold plunge.
Elite Contour Sculpt, 9401 S. Pulaski, Unit 3N, received approval from the village. The business will offer non-invasive aesthetic body contouring.
Approval was also given for 7 Brew Coffee, 3600 W. 95th St. The former business at the location will be leveled for the 7 Brew Coffee, which is now located in six states and they plan to open 80 stores by the end of 2027 in greater Chicago area and nearby states.
Representatives of the company said that 7 Brew Coffee plans to eventually open in Chicago Ridge and throughout the south suburbs. The coffee shop will be mostly a drive-thru business and drivers of the vehicles will be required to exit onto 95th Street and turn right.
Approve ordinances
An ordinance was approved for a special use permit to allow an auto repair shop at 3055 W. 87th St. and repair vehicle yard on the premises at 8700 S. Utica Ave. to operate.
Another ordinance was approved by the village for a real estate contract for the west half of the property located at 2654 W. 98th Place. Another ordinance was approved by the village for the real estate sale contract for the east half of the property at the above listed location.
Burke explained that residents that live east and west of the village property indicated they would want to purchase some of the land for development.
