Driver charged after child rides unbelted

A Chicago man received four tickets after police saw a 4-year-old child riding unrestrained in the front seat of his vehicle at East Avenue and 55th Street at 7:22 p.m. Sept. 28.

Police had stopped Oscar Marentes, 26, for a suspended registration. An officer then saw the child in the front seat without a seat belt, police said.

Marentes was charged with a child restraint violation, driving on a revoked license, driving on a suspended registration and driving without insurance.

Lombard woman arrested on two warrants

Police stopped Aaliyah C. Carter, 23, of Lombard, in the 9900 block of Joliet Road at 7:24 p.m. Sept. 29 after a license plate reading camera alerted them that she was wanted on two warrants.

The DuPage County warrants were for violating an order of protection earlier this year, police said. Carter was arrested without incident and taken to Cook County Jail.

Chicago man charged with four retail thefts

Police arrested Andre Keys, 61, of Chicago, at 9:02 a.m. Sept. 30 in connection with four retail thefts at the Jewel in Countryside in recent weeks.

A license plate reading camera alerted officers that Keys was driving through Countryside. Countryside and Hodgkins police found him in the 9900 block of Joliet Road and arrested him without incident.

Police found about 80 bottles of liquor in his vehicle. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office approved four counts of felony retail theft.

Juvenile charged with possessing stolen gun

A juvenile arrested Oct. 2 in connection with the Sept. 26 burglary of a vehicle parked in the 5600 block of LaGrange Road has also been charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Graffiti found on gas station wall

An employee at the Shell station, 6701 Joliet Road, reported graffiti on the building’s south wall at 2:01 p.m. Sept. 25.

Surveillance video showed a person in a baseball hat and hooded sweatshirt drawing the graffiti at 1:24 a.m. Sept. 25, then leaving in an SUV headed west on Joliet Road, police said.

Hit-and-run on 55th Street

A motorist told police that about 4:20 p.m. Sept. 25, a dark-colored sedan rear-ended their vehicle in the 9600 block of 55th Street and then drove off.

Street sign stolen

Someone stole a street sign at 58th Street and Francis Avenue between late Sept. 25 and early Sept. 26.

Man reports $975.90 charge he didn’t make

A man reported Sept. 16 that he received a credit card bill showing a $975.90 purchase on July 17 at the Countryside Best Buy, 11 Countryside Plaza. He told police he never opened a Best Buy credit card account and never made any purchases there.

Woman’s credit card used at three stores

A woman reported Oct. 1 that her credit card had been used without her permission at Marshalls and Jewel in Countryside and at Walmart in Hodgkins.

She told police she believes she dropped the card in the Salem Square parking lot near Marshalls.
