Hundreds of residents lined Archer Road and 63rd Street on Saturday as Argo Community High School’s homecoming parade traveled from Ingredion in Bedford Park north through Summit, ending at the school on 63rd Street.
The parade featured 30 units, including area police and fire departments, school sports teams and clubs, the marching band and orchestra from Argo, Heritage Middle School, Girl Scout Troop 56922, Summit Library, Bedford Park and Summit Park District, and the Argo Summit Lodge #1133. Talerico Bakery handed out donuts along the route, and parade participants tossed candy to children watching from the sidewalks.
Stacie Scheiner, in her first year as Activities Director, said the parade capped a week of events that reflected deep community investment in the school.
“What stood out to me most was how much pride and support surrounded our students,” Scheiner said. “Families, alumni, and community members showed up to participate in and line the streets of the parade, which made Homecoming feel so much bigger than just a school event.”
The week leading up to Saturday included Spirit Week, Powder Puff Football, Senior Sunrise, a pep rally, football and soccer games, and a homecoming dance.
Scheiner credited the Villages of Summit and Bedford Park, along with local businesses and institutions including Talerico Bakery, Ingredion and the Institute for Food and Drug Safety, with making the events possible.
“The way everyone came together makes me excited for all to come for the remainder of this school year,” she said.
